Does having bathroom fitted furniture work? even if its reduced depth is there plenty of storage space?

A) If I cleared out my sock drawer, would there be enough room for my insect collection?

Need a bathroom cabinet?

Q) Have searched all the usual outlets across the UK - none have what I'm after. Anyone know of a good web-site for bathroom furniture?

A) If I had a better idea of what you were looking for, I might be able to point you in the right direction. I don't know if you've already checked the following, but there's a fairly good selection: http://dwell.co.uk/product.php?dep=Bathroom&subdep=Cabinet&dscr=Bathroom+cabinet http://www.thewhitecompany.com/content.aspx?DepGrpCode=BATH&CntCode=BATHFUR http://www.johnlewis.com/Home+and+Garden/Bathroom/Bathroom/Cabinets/110/0/0/ProductType.aspx http://www.cotswoldco.com/uk-c/bathroom/cabinets/index.html http://www.bathroomheaven.com/sp_brochure/main_mirrors_and_cabinets http://www.porcelanosa.co.uk/consumer/furniture/index.htm http://www.thefrenchhouse.net/?category=23 http://www.bathstore.com/_application/bathstore/products/cabinets/index.html http://www.victoriaplumb.com/victoriaplumb_com_Bathroom_Furniture_57.html

Are my bathroom plans outdated?

Q) Hello! We have bought a new house and are moving in in early June. obviously I want to really put my mark on the house and would like to start with the bathroom as at the moment it's just a plain white and looks really clinical. I was thinking of icy blue walls with bright white ceilings and pine style flooring and furniture, but was just wondering if this was a bit outdated? I've had a look through some home magazines and can't see anything like what I want to do!!

A) No, your plans for your bathroom are not out dated, there is no such thing as being out dated when it comes to putting your personal touches into your bathroom design. THAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE! Why look for your idea in magazines, maybe you can sell your design to the magazines, have you ever thought of that being the reason you cannot find "your" design in magazines, is because it's yours? By the way, most new home buyers that did not buy the home prior to it being built, usually start in the bathroom when making changes. The bathroom is one of the selling strengths of selling homes, aside from the heart of the home for most of us, :-). I have designed many bathrooms or came up with different ideas for my customers to choose from in the many that I have remodeled, mostly with tile, my forte' and the design you want isn't really uncommon but it is tasteful and makes a nice decor for any bathroom, especially with the pine touch in it's natural color. You are actually using natures color schemes, once you think about it. A sky-light in the ceiling would really give it a nice touch, it would make the icy blue stand out. I think your counter tops should have a light tan color or even go as far as maybe the color of the core of a pineapple. Good luck and have fun remodeling.

Did your grandmother have those plastic covers on her furniture?

Q) Was talking with a mate last night and this brought back memories...did your grandmother have her furniture covered in plastic to protect it? I suppose it was a good idea, but who would want to inherit a frilly hideous flowered sofa? You'd stick to the plastic if you were wearing shorts....ahhh comfort. She also had those plastic runners. What was with that? Was my grandmother certifiably insane or did yours have this hangup too? And oh yes, she also didn't allow wire hangers...only plastic. Much like in Mommie Dearest (Joan Crawford) Thankfully she didn't hit me over the head with a can of Comet and require me to scrub the bathroom floor in the middle of the night. We were Irish though....maybe that explains it.

A) Lord yes, help us all. The plastic runners were on her floor until they yellowed and curled up at the edges. Her carpet was apparently more important than the trips to the hospital that I required after tripping over those damn humped up runners. My grandmother also had the plastic slip covered that protected her "precious" red velvet couch. LOL That was the ugliest thing i've ever seen. Who would buy that let alone try to protect it. She did allow wire hangers but only because they came free with the dry cleaning and God forbid they be thrown out. She also saved the bags that loaves of bread came in for some unknown purpose. Yeah, it was always "fun" at Grandma's, though she was really sweet and a great cook. We just lived in fear of messing anything up at her house.

In the 90's I liked black-ash furniture but now hate it. Does anyone still like it?

Q) I look at 70's interior decor in pictures (dark brown patterned carpets, orange curtains, olive green bathrooms etc) and can't understand why anyone would have bought the stuff (I was only a baby at the time thankfully!) 10 years ago I really liked black-ash furniture and actually bought some, but now I'd much rather go for beach, maple, light oak colours. Do our tastes actually change as we ourselves get older, do we just get bored with things, or am I being influenced by fashion without realising it (wanting to have what other have)? I still don't mind black electrical appliances (tv, hifi etc), even though silver has dominated for at least 6 years in the UK. Is it conceivable that 70's interior fashion could return?

A) Oh God, when I look at what we used in the 70's its horrifying, all the big patterns and gaudy designs. They look really awful, but at the time it was what everyone was using. Black Ash furniture, I confess I still have a unit in the front room that is under my flat screen T.V. Yes I still like it. I think we are all influenced by the fashion as it is at the time. I think fashion will always move in circles. Interior and clothes

Including space at the sides how much width should I allow for a UK toilet? Plumbers please help!!?

Q) I'm trying to redesign my bathroom to squeeze in a shower. But I can find very few dimensions for toilets. In the shop the smallest ones seem to measure about 45cm in width - but how much space should I allow on each side. I don't want to be sitting with a bum cheek on the shower panel wall! (Any recommendations for cheap but modern bathroom furniture also appreciated. I'm in Manchester UK or can buy on web) Thanks

A) Building code requires that you have 15 inches of clearance from the center of the toilet on either side. This basically means you need a 30 inch space.

Tenerife Royal Gardens -TIME SHARE-?

Q) Does anyone own time share weeks in this resort in Las Americas can they tell me if they agree their maintenaince money is not really being spent on maintaining these apartments. Has anyone used them this year? as up until last year they all needed a renovation i.e. bathrooms, furniture etc..

A) The TRG along with a few others complexes were developed by a man called John Palmer. He was convicted of fraud and did some time in prison. The courts declared him bankrupt in a move intended to recover millions of pounds in compensation that the court had also oredered to be paid to victims of the fraud. It is intended that TRG will eventually be sold (as Flamingo and Island Village already have been) but TRG has an embargo placed on it by Spanish courts preventing the sale due to non payment of taxes etc. Work is ongoing with the courts to have the embargo lifted. So in view of it's eventual sale it's no surprise the current management are not spending on the place. You can find some of the background information and news as to what is happening now here... http://www.irwinmitchell.com/Personal/GroupAction/Guides/GuideToJohnPalmerTimeshareFraud.

The effects of Beer ?

Q) Yesterday, after extensive testing, scientists revealed that beer contains small traces of female hormones... yes, it's true. To prove their theory, the scientists had 100 men consume 12 bottles of beer. They then observed that 100% of them: 1: Gained weight. 2: Talked excessively without making sense. 3: Became emotional. 4: Called home just to see if anyone called. 5: Couldn't drive. 6: Went to the bathroom in groups. 7: Rearranged the furniture for no apparent reason. No further testing is planned.

A) So i dont have a beer gut, i'm pregnant....

when people are left inherited wealth why do they say they wont change they always do new in the house an out

Q) they get rid of old dated furniture in comes the new kitchen , bathroom, doors , they then say , well we had the money , but dont like the hassle , why dont they , just say , the money came in handy to do all this updating .

A) There are a lot of problems and inconveniences that will go away if you throw some money their way. When people who have not had much money find this out, it changes them. Their tolerance for having to put up with things decreases. It is not a planned thing, it is just a discovery of an easier life.

Where should I buy bathroom furniture?

Q) I'm looking for a low (but wide) cabinet (not one of those tall towers) and a matching medicine cabinet for my bathroom. I want it to be relatively sturdy and good quality, but it may not be permanent in our house, so I don't want to spend too much money. I've looked at Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and Ikea, but the first two are too expensive and Ikea didn't have the right thing. Any other ideas of where to look? Oh - and the first one we bought, thinking that it would be temporary was from Target and the quality was awful. It was cheap, so we got what we paid for, but I don't want to do that again. So something between Target and Pottery Barn in terms of price.

A) How about JCPenney's? You can look on their site and they usually have good deals like if you purchase 2 items (same or different depending) you get a discount.

Looking for the best fit furniture for bathroom, dimensions are...?

Q) I recently remodeled my bathroom and took out a home made cabinet for one corner of the bathroom. This corner has three sides and mesures 28"W x 38" D x 80" H. I am looking for a ready made cabinet to fit this dimension. Any suggestions where to find such furniture? Also would it be cheaper to just rebuild the cabinet myself? Any ideas would be great. Thank you.

A) You are going to have trouble finding a ready made in that hieght. You will probably get more out of the space by crafting a cupboard yourself. I wouldn't make it that deep however unless you are going to buildin some kind of sliding shelves of stuff will get lost at the back. the typical Pantry/linen cabinet is only 24" deep at the deepest. Unless your arms are really long you don't want it much deeper. Doors will be the hardest part to make but you can order nice ones custom made from the home centers, they all have a relationship with a company called "Quality Door"
